I love to paint because it gives me an excuse to observe, and during this time I feel a deep connection to my subject. With each painting, I hope to communicate this sense of connection to the viewer.
I often paint using my own photography as reference - not so much for the convenience of reproducing the two dimensional appearance of realism. I simply love photography and appreciate how the camera stills an instant. Painting from photographs lets me slow time down to prolong the experience of observation, which lets me connect to my subject.
